Pills and Potions

...we had our heads thrown open to the sky;  we were high...

it seemed 'love' was on everyone's lips...

far more concerned with truth than consequence;

when we lit out on some of those trips...

resorting to pills and potions, looking for love, hard pressed...

putting our emotions to the acid test

trying  on our roles like children parading in their parent's clothes...

we were young and restless, eager to play our parts...

to throw the dice and guess at what was in our hearts

stripping down to our souls as though naked wasn't far enough to go...

(how could we know?)

that time was waiting, to kiss and tell;

dawn was breaking in a P.O.W. cell...

it was all somehow connected; so hard to accept or explain...

resorting to pills and potions we wonder how we got second guessed

is the time for those emotions truly passed?

how can we face this new complacency?

we were the ones born to change the world!

(there;s still a few flags unfurled!)

we left our martyrs on the altar of the revolution

as though cutting and hiding were some brand new solution...

we took our ideals underground, as though they could  grow

without the sun... and it just can't be done...

resorting to pills and potions, now our own children go...

in search of true love and devotion... rumours and relics from long ago...

raising the same questions and banners,

looking for answers only we could know...

and it just might be so ('cause I believe that...)

time is waiting to kiss and tell ...

pride is hiding in our hearts, ready to swell...

it's still all connected, accept and let your actions explain...

it's still all connected, just accept and let your actions explain!

come on people, now... smile on your brother...

come on brother, now...respect your sister...

come on children... protect your mother earth...

come on children... yeah, yeah, ... ,,, ,,,

...well... you just can't get away with three 'yeahs', now... can you?  ... this song dates back to the live 1990 Artspace recording... a retro hippie anthem, even then... time for a re-working of this in the duo format... the songs in this effort will not be sequenced in any particular order... I was thinking that perhaps the whole effort could eventually be in some sort of hard copy form, with the chords scratched in over the words, maybe even some doodling and sketches... small run of print, while it is still available... I bought a very simple songbook from Joe Hall's  earlier days at this celebration concert @ the Tranzac last year, and was quite taken with the format...

 truly passed

how can we face this new complacency

resorting to pills and potions

we wonder how we got second guessed

is the time for those emotions
